     Ms. Rachel Carlin

Rachel Carlin is a dedicated educator with a deep passion for empowering young learners and fostering inclusive education.

After earning her BA from the University of The Witwatersrand, Rachel embarked on a transformative journey to Geneva, where she discovered her love for special needs education. Collaborating with Roland Hifler, a renowned Swiss special needs therapist, she gained invaluable expertise in supporting children with diverse learning needs.

Her time in Geneva also led her to pursue a Montessori diploma in foundation phase education, laying the foundation for a lifelong commitment to teaching.

Rachel’s educational journey continued in Africa, where she worked in Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam, focusing on school readiness and special needs education. In 2011, she founded The Schoolhouse in Dar es Salaam, a thriving school that serves both local and expatriate communities. Under Rachel’s leadership, the school has not only transformed the lives of countless children but has also empowered Tanzanian educators through extensive professional development initiatives.

A Teacher Who Never Stops Learning

    • “I am a teacher who never stops learning. Every day brings a new opportunity, and I’m always on the lookout for the next qualification to help me grow.”
    • “You have to love to learn if you want to love to teach. And I do. Every new skill helps me become a better teacher for the students who inspire me every day.”

Rachel’s qualifications reflect her dedication to holistic teaching:

    • She has completed an award in literacy and dyslexia, becoming an expert in emerging reading skills, helping children unlock their potential through reading.
    • Beyond the classroom, she has qualified as a mom’s and baby swim teacher, demonstrating her belief in nurturing growth in all areas of life.
    • She excelled at the Primary Cambridge English course, further expanding her skills to enhance her students’ learning experience.

Through her innovative methods and unwavering dedication, The Schoolhouse is a place where children flourish, educators grow, and the love of learning comes alive.
